Faculty Grants and Fellowships

The majority of sociology faculty have grants from external agecies that fund their research. Many faculty have also won competitive grants and fellowships internal to the the University of Arizona. Our faculty are especially successful at winning grants from the National Science Foundation, the premier source of funding for basic research in sociology. Faculty also have grants from a range of other agencies and foundations, such as the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, and the MacArthur Foundation.

This support for faculty research also provides training opportunities and financial support for graduate students. In 2013, about one-third of the doctoral students in sociology are working as research assistants on faculty grants.

Note: our graduate students also routinely win grants and fellowships. (Click here for a list of recent awards).
