Jane Zavisca, Associate Professor of Sociology, has been awarded a grant from the Minerva Research Initiative for a study entitled, "Homeownership and Societal Stability: Testing Causal Effects in Central Eurasia." The study, based on longitudinal focus groups and surveys in four countries, will investigate the causal effects of homeownership and other aspects of housing status on political grievances, social grievances, civic norms, and ideology. The Minerva Initiative of the Department of Defense funds unclassified, basic social science research relevant to national security. The grant is collaborative with the University of Wisconsin (Ted Gerber, PI). The total grant amount is projected $3.5 million over 5 years. The UA share is $783,000 ($458,000 in years 1-3, with a $325,000 anticipated extension in years 4-5).
