National rankings of doctoral programs in sociology consistently rank the University of Arizona among the top 20 sociology programs in the United States. Our faculty are nationally and internationally acknowledged authorities in their fields.
Our intensive graduate training prepares students for careers in research and teaching. In addition to rigorous formal training in sociological theory and methods, students receive hands-on training by working directly with faculty as research and teaching assistants and through professionalization workshops.
Our doctoral students routinely publish their work in peer-reviewed journals, are awarded competitive external grants and fellowships, and are competitive in national labor markets for sociology PhDs.
