Meltem's areas of interest are work and occupations, social networks, organizations, social movements and collective action, and sociology of culture. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics at Boğaziçi University (Istanbul, Turkey). Her recent works focus on the economic formation of retail markets, the economic and social formation of online communication networks, and social movement reaction to repressive measures.
