Magellan Circle Patron Scholarship

The College of Social and Behavioral sciences provides $500 scholarships to a number of undergraduates who are majoring in any SBS program. Please see the Magellan Scholarship website for more information.

School of Sociology Textbook Scholarship (Summer 2017)

The School of Sociology offers a $200 Textbook Scholarship for the UA Bookstore, for use on new or used academic textbooks.

Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

Applicant must be (1) a declared Sociology or Care, Health & Society major at the University of Arizona, (2) a Junior or Senior (60 credits minimum), (3) paying School of Sociology program fees. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of academic achievement, and/or potential for educational and career success. Applications will be reviewed on a first come - first served basis.

School of Sociology Graduate Application Scholarship 

The School of Sociology offers a Graduate Application Scholarship for students who apply to post-graduate programs, to be used to offset application fees.

Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

Applicant must be (1) a declared Sociology or Care, Health & Society major at the University of Arizona, (2) a Junior or Senior (60 credits minimum), (3) paying School of Sociology program fees. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of academic achievement, and/or potential for educational and career success. Applications will be reviewed on a first come - first served basis.

School of Sociology Standardized Test Scholarship

The School of Sociology offers a Standardized Test Scholarship for students who must take standardized tests (e.g. GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT) as a requirement for post-graduate education. Standardized Test Scholarships may be used to reimburse students for test preparation courses or to reimburse for test registration fees.

School of Sociology Travel Stipend

School of Sociology students may apply to receive travel expense stipends for presenting at academic conferences. For more infromation, please visit: Travel Stipends

Roger Yoshino Undergraduate Award

The Roger Yoshino Award was established by the Yoshino family and children to facilitate undergraduates becoming contributors to society through education in Sociology. The late Dr. Yoshino served as a faculty member in the UA Sociology Department from 1958 to 1991, specializing in the study of race relations. He contributed his expertise to numerous landmark policy and legal decisions involving minorities. He also worked for social justice in Arizona and the nation through his participation in a variety of organizations, commissions, and projects. For academic year 2016-2017, awards of up to $1000 each (renewable by re-application) will be presented by the UA School of Sociology's Undergraduate Studies Committee. The awards are intended to offset routine undergraduate student expenses (except for tuition) during the academic year.

Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

A Yoshino Award applicant must be a declared undergraduate major or minor in Sociology with a graduation date not earlier than Spring 2018.  Applicants will be evaluated on a combination of economic need, promise for making a contribution to society, and academic performance.

Applicants must submit the following:

  1. Application Cover Sheet (see below)
  2. Confidential Recommendation Letter (CRL)
    Need two letters of recommendation. One must be from an instructor in Sociology,
    the other from a Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) instructor.
  3. Career Goals Essay
  4. Economic Statement

Applicants must submit all required materials via Scholarship Universe. The application will be available from March 1st through March 31st. Frederick A. and Margaret S. Conrad Scholarship

The Conrad Scholarship was established by Frederick A. and Margaret S. Conrad to facilitate undergraduates becoming contributors to society through education in Sociology. This generous couple established an endowment that will fund scholarships in perpetuity for “deserving and promising students… seeking careers in Health and Social Services.” For academic year 2016-2017, awards of up to $2,000 each (renewable by re-application) will be presented by the UA School of Sociology's Undergraduate Studies Committee. The awards are intended to offset routine undergraduate student expenses (except for tuition) during the academic year.

Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

A Conrad Scholarship applicant must be a declared undergraduate major in eitherCare, Health and Society or Sociology with a graduation date not earlier than Spring 2017.  Applicants will be evaluated on a combination of (1) success in coursework related to health and social services, (2) progress toward degree in Care, Health and Society or Sociology, (3) commitment to community service in the areas of health and social services, (4) long-term career objectives related to health and social services, and (5) economic need.
