Magellan Circle Patron Scholarship

The College of Social and Behavioral sciences provides $500 scholarships to a number of undergraduates who are majoring in any SBS program. Please see the SBS Scholarship page for more information.

School of Sociology Textbook Support

The School of Sociology offers support for textbooks (new or used) and school supplies purchased from the University of Arizona Bookstore for a total amount of $200.

Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

You must be:

  1. a declared Sociology or Care, Health & Society major at the University of Arizona
  2. a Junior or Senior (60 credits minimum)
  3. paying School of Sociology program fees.

Applications will be reviewed on a first come - first served basis.

Roger Yoshino Undergraduate Award

The Roger Yoshino Award was established by the Yoshino family and children to facilitate undergraduates becoming contributors to society through education in Sociology. The late Dr. Yoshino served as a faculty member in the Sociology Department from 1958 to 1991, specializing in the study of race relations. He contributed his expertise to numerous landmark policy and legal decisions involving minorities. He also worked for social justice in Arizona and the nation through his participation in a variety of organizations, commissions, and projects. Awards of up to $1000 each (renewable by re-application) will be presented by the UA School of Sociology's Undergraduate Studies Committee. The awards are intended to offset routine undergraduate student expenses (except for tuition) during the academic year.

Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

You must be a declared undergraduate major or minor in Sociology with a graduation date not earlier than Spring 2020. You will be evaluated on a combination of economic need, promise for making a contribution to society, and academic performance.

    the other from a Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) instructor.

Frederick A. and Margaret S. Conrad Scholarship

The Conrad Scholarship was established by Frederick A. and Margaret S. Conrad to facilitate undergraduates becoming contributors to society through education in Sociology. This generous couple established an endowment that will fund scholarships in perpetuity for “deserving and promising students… seeking careers in Health and Social Services.” Awards of up to $2,000 each (renewable by re-application) will be presented by the School of Sociology's Undergraduate Studies Committee. The awards are intended to offset routine undergraduate student expenses (except for tuition) during the academic year.

Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

You must be a declared undergraduate major in either Care, Health and Society or Sociology with a graduation date not earlier than the following Spring semester. You will be evaluated on a combination of:

  • success in coursework related to health and social services
  • progress toward degree in Care, Health and Society or Sociology
  • commitment to community service in the areas of health and social services
  • long-term career objectives related to health and social services
  • economic need
