When

Noon – 1 p.m., April 24, 2026

Where

We're excited to host a multi-day workshop featuring Dr. Taylor Winfield and two visiting scholars, Dr. Prudence Carter and Dr. Iddo Tavory, as they discuss her upcoming book, Uniformed Bodies: How the Illusion of Standardization Reproduces Inequality, and the academic publishing process. Over three days, you'll have the opportunity to witness peer feedback on a manuscript in development, learn from established scholars about research and career trajectories, and gain insights into the academic publishing process from a university press editor.

Publishing with a University Press

Alyssa Napier, Editor in Sociology and Black Studies at Columbia University Press, will share the basic information scholars need to know about university press publishing, including: an overview of the publishing process and the work you'll be expected to do as an author; how to find the right press for you; what editors are looking for when we assess book proposals; and tips for pitching to an editor and having that initial editor/author meeting. This session is ideal for anyone considering publishing their work or interested in learning about the behind-the-scenes work of academic publishing.

Date & Time: Friday, April 24 | 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM
Location: Via Zoom
