Gissel Perez

Gissel Perez is currently an Assistant Professor of Practice. She has earned a Ph.D. in Criminology, Law, & Society from the University of Florida. Her academic interests include wrongful convictions and jury/juror decision making.

Perez’s current work seeks to examine how juror’s perceive certain types of evidence and how these perceptions affect their decision making in cases. She has conducted research on secondary confessions, specifically if showing jurors, a video of a secondary confession can affect verdict or change perceptions of the jailhouse informant and whether watching such a video allows them to discount incentives better. She has also conducted research on mock juror perceptions of interrogation tactics and confession evidence.
