Jessica’s research interests consist of exploring the impacts on victims and cultural responses from acts of sexual abuse, understanding the intersection of law and society focusing on topics related to battered women’s syndrome, and analyzing how we understand gender. For 3 consecutive years she was a research assistant for Dr. Jennifer Earl. She was also hired by Dr. Earl as a short-term grader for SOC 150B1 (Social Issues in America).

Jessica was a Ronald E. McNair Achievement Scholar and conducted research with Dr. Jennifer Carlson on a project titled “Effects of Victimization on Engagement and Expression.” The project utilized gun violence incidents occurring in California and Florida to examine these differing gun cultures. This project also investigated the connection of political engagement, victimization, criminalization, and victimhood/survivorship for victims of the events. Her primary role was to create detailed case studies for a variety of gun violence incidents.

She received her B.A. from the University of Arizona in Law & Sociology Cum Laude in 2021. Jessica is grateful for all her mentors, professors, family, advisors, and her family who helped her achieve this as they were essential assets to her educational career.

Outside of academia, she was born in Tucson and spends a great deal of time with her family. She also enjoys drawing & painting, watching tv, and listening to music. Her and her family are also big Disney and Marvel fans.
