Jun-Jie Lin is a Ph.D. student in Sociology at the University of Arizona. His research interest lies in risk sociology, environmental sociology, and disability studies. In his Ph.D. studies, he plans to investigate how social and global structures shape people's health, how and why people are willing to accept certain risks and hazards, and what social actors and institutions sustain the legitimacy of pollution. Jun-Jie earned his master's degree in sociology at National Taipei University, Taiwan, in 2019. His master's thesis investigates the social movement initiated by Taiwanese motorcyclists protesting against official traffic regulations. By analyzing newspaper and official documents and interviewing Taiwanese motorcyclists, he explored how the Taiwanese government historically built scientific traffic management and how social structures shape the nuances of risk perception in different social groups. He also learns disability studies to investigate social mechanisms of oppression and discrimination against people with disabilities.
