Myung-Ji Headshot 2024

Social Sciences, 412

I am Myung-Ji Heo, and my research in sociology focuses on the intersection of gender, work, and family. Specifically, I explore how societal biases, and organizational structures impact the gender pay gap and work-family balance. My academic journey has involved researching cultural influences on the gender wage gap during my time at Ohio State University and further examining performance-based pay systems during my master’s studies at Yonsei University. As I further explore my research, I am particularly interested in how interdisciplinary approaches and the evolving role of expertise in workplaces can uncover latent inequalities, such as those influenced by automation or professional authority structures. These insights will allow me to address gender disparities within evolving organizational contexts. In my free time, I enjoy staying active through badminton, swimming, and CrossFit. I also love cooking, especially Korean food, and baking. Once I get settled into Tucson and our department, I’m looking forward to trying my hand at making Madeleines!
