Professor Jeffrey Sallaz Elected New Member of the Sociological Research Association

Aug. 29, 2022

We've received news that our own Professor Jeffrey Sallaz has been elected as a new member of the Sociological Research Association! The highly selective 400-person society of sociological scholars was founded in 1936, elects up to 14 new members annually, and hosts a dinner at the ASA annual meeting. The sole criterion for election is excellence in sociological research, which Professor Sallaz meets and surpasses. As noted in his nomination letter, Jeff's corpus of research to date is uniformly stellar. He is the rare ethnographic researcher who publishes excellent books (five of them to date, including two award-winning monographs reporting his ethnographic and participant-observation research in the US, South Africa, and the Philippines) and also many highly placed journal articles (two dozen to date, in venues including ASR, AJS, Annual Review of Sociology, Theory & Society, Politics & Society, Ethnography, Work & Occupations, and many more). As a remarkably prolific, creative, and incisive scholar, we know Jeff will continue on his path of influential scholarship, to the benefit of so many, especially Arizona sociologists! We're so grateful to have him on our faculty.

Please join us in congratulating Jeff!
